How I Style for Fall (Even When It’s Still Warm Outside)

Fall is my favorite season to dress for—but living in New England, I know the struggle. We get a fake fall, then more warm days, and THEN cozy fall weather. But when it’s still warm outside, piling on cozy layers just isn’t realistic.

That’s where I’ve learned to get creative with my fall styling. At Indy Clover, the booths are filled with secondhand gems that make it easy to look seasonal while staying comfortable. Here’s how I bring in those autumn vibes—even when the temperatures are still in summer mode.

1. I Start With Fall Colors

The quickest way to shift into fall fashion is through color. I swap out my light summer shades for deeper hues like burnt orange, olive green, mustard yellow, and burgundy. Even if I’m wearing a tank top, if it’s in a fall tone, the whole outfit feels more seasonal.

2. I Swap Fabrics, Not Layers

Instead of reaching for heavy sweaters, I look for fabrics that look cozy but still breathe—like corduroy skirts, ribbed tanks, or lightweight denim. I’ve found so many of these pieces secondhand at Indy Clover, and they instantly make my outfits feel more autumn-ready.

3. I Keep Light Layers Handy

Mornings and evenings in the fall can feel cooler, so I’ll grab an oversized button-up or denim jacket. During the day, I can tie it around my waist or drape it over my shoulders. It gives me that layered fall look without overheating.

4. I Add Fall Accessories

Accessories are where I really lean into the season. Ankle boots with a skirt, a wide-brim hat, or a leather crossbody bag can transform a simple outfit into a fall outfit. I always check Indy Clover for unique boots and bags—you never know what treasures you’ll find.

5. I Mix In Seasonal Prints

Plaid is an obvious fall favorite, but I also love mixing in houndstooth and animal prints. A plaid mini skirt with a basic tee is one of my go-to transitional looks. It’s light enough for warm weather but screams autumn.

6. I Reach for Transitional Dresses

Thrifted maxi and midi dresses in earthy tones are a lifesaver this time of year. I can wear them with sandals now, and when it cools down, I’ll swap in boots and maybe a cardigan. It’s such an easy way to stretch my wardrobe across seasons.

🍂 The best part? I don’t have to buy everything new. Indy Clover is full of affordable, sustainable fashion finds that make seasonal styling fun and budget-friendly. Whether you’re searching for boots, plaid skirts, or that perfect pumpkin patch dress, there’s always something waiting for you here.

✨ Fall fashion is about feeling cozy, even if it’s still 75 degrees outside. With a little creativity (and a few secondhand treasures from Indy Clover), you can bring those autumn vibes into your wardrobe right now.
